Did you ever wonder why the skin care product you were using stopped working?

My girlfriend and I discovered this issue years ago.  We thought that maybe the formula changed, but really it was our body just telling us that it was time to change products. Once we switch to another product (which we discovered was not an easy solution to find something new that worked), our skin responded again.

I also had this discussion with Julie Block, President & CEO of the National Eczema Association.  In our discussion we talked about the need to have two regimens for our skin in our personal care tool box because our skin gets use to a product after a while. She reminded me to tell eczema suffers this fact and once a product stops working to go back to the product that worked previously.  It is not that the product that does not work or will never work again, it just that our bodies have gotten used to the product, or so we Julie and I think.

The fact that the same thing happens with Antibiotics kept coming to the forefront of my thoughts because with antibiotics, our bodies become resistant to the drugs due to bacteria change. [1]

So I did a comprehensive search online for any clinical trials that may have been completed, scoured the American Academy of Dermatology website, and many Google search words.

In my search I finally came across this website:

http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/news/20090528/human-skin-alive-with-bacteria

It stated that “Your skin is crawling with hundreds of kinds of bacteria, NIH researchers find.”

So could it be that our external skin responds the same way to personal care products as our internal body responds to antibiotics?

I would love to know your thoughts or if you have any clinical data that may help solve this mystery.   Please tweet me, leave a comment on my Facebook page, or comment here on my blog.

Have a fantastic day!  Renee

My Personal Experience with Eczema

I was 10 years old when I developed Eczema on my feet. I was up all night crying and scratching much to my mother’s chagrin. I had it soo bad that I was allowed to wear open toed shoes to Catholic School (with a doctor’s note of course). The rebel and fashionista I was, I of course wore platform open toed shoes; it was after all 1973. The nuns just loved me.

My mother took me to my newborn brother’s pediatrician who only chastise me for keeping my mom up all night and never gave me anything to help with the itching. He told me to “just stop scratching and go to sleep and stop keeping my mom up all night”. I will never forget this because anyone that has ever had eczema knows that you want nothing more than to “just stop scratching and get a good night’s sleep”. It was not until a year later that a family relative recommended to my mom and dad to take me to a dermatologist. It was there that he prescribed “Valisone” the ointment. In two weeks the eczema cleared and my mom and I were able to sleep again.

Valisone is no longer available, which I am shocked about because it worked. The good news is that my patent pending “Hand Scrub” formula is helping people get relief from eczema. It exfoliates and moisturizes at the same time without causing more pain to the area.

If you have eczema you should give it a try.
